Education Policies

The Policy section of this website contains key current national and regional education plans which, collectively, set out to tackle skills challenges through policies around:

  • Employment (including welfare reform)
  • Education
  • Economic
  • Public Services
  • Health and Social Care

The government’s range of educational reforms are both radical and closely aligned to policies to increase skills levels.

They include :

  • The development and delivery of Diplomas
  • Increased numbers of Apprenticeships
  • Reforms to A Levels & GCSEs
  • The creation of a foundation learning tier
  • New functional skills qualifications in English, mathematics and ICT

Valuing success: a strategy for 14-19 qualifications” 2008 sets out the range of new qualifications which include Diplomas,young apprenticeships and revision of GCSE/A Level

A curriculum for the future

The QCA describes the new curricula supporting education reform.

Higher Education at Work - High Skills: High Value (April 2008)

This strategy describes government plans to increase the number of graduates.

 

 Breaking the Link Between Disadvantage and low attainment:  DCFS March 2009

This policy refreshes the Government's Skills for Life Strategy and adds new resources.
